Bonfire Talent Show (November, 2012)
On Wednesday 7th November 2012 the Cubs & Scouts held a bonfire talent evening at Lt Shelford. The Cubs and Scouts decide what they wanted to do, they told jokes, did magic tricks and we even had a few funny (scary) sketches. A good fun night was had by all and here are a few photos of what went on. Enjoy
Summer Camp Grantchester (July, 2012)
On the weekend of Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd July 2012 the Scouts and older Cubs had their summer camp at Grantchester. Here you will find pictures of what they got up to including pioneering, camp crafts, backwoods cooking, crafts and cooking their own breakfast. The weather was interesting but did not hamper the Scouts and Cubs from having fun. Thanks to all who made it a very happy and fun camp. (Sorry some of the photos are a bit blurry but the camera was having trouble with the weather and light, still worth a look)
Scout Canoeing (July, 2012)
On Sunday 1st July 2012 the Scouts went Canoeing on the river. This event was organised by Will and Penny Bull who, along with their son David, took the Scouts out for some safe water fun. At the end of the trip all the Scouts had to form a raft, holding onto each other’s boats in a line and then in twos walk from one boat to another, not easy when you both end up on the same boat. We say a big Thank You to Will, Penny and David for all their hard work and the fun they bring to Scouts on days like this.
Scouts help with river bank planting (June, 2012)
On Wednesday 13th June 2012 the Scouts were invited by our very good Scouting friend Rob Mungovan to help plant some flowers along the edge of the river Shep at Fowlmere. Rob is the Ecology Officer for South Cambridgeshire District Council and along with Jess Hatchett, who is the Water for Wildlife Officer at the Cambridge Wildlife Trust, and Rob’s dad, Chris, the Scouts were shown where and how to plant the flowers. When all the planting was done Rob, Jess and Chris took the Scouts a little further along the river and helped them do some netting. You can see in the photos that they caught a whole host of river life from small lava to full grown small fish. We are very lucky to have such a good friend as Rob to help us with these kinds of activates and we send him, and his team, a very big Thank You.
Harston War Memorial (May, 2012)
Being the 1st Harston Scout we are proud to look after and maintain the Harston War Memorial. Here the Scouts are planting some flowers to add some summer colour to the borders. We hope all who past by will appreciate the memorial and what it stands for.
Mini Pioneering (May, 2012)
The Scouts having spent a couple of weeks making mini pioneering scale models of a Up & Over Bridge moved onto stage 2. Here using broom sticks and ropes they divided into four groups and each group made a part of the bridge. When all four parts were put together it looked like a real bridge. Stage 3 will be the real full scale version that they will be building at summer camp.
Mini Pioneering Bridge (May, 2012)
Over a few Wednesdays, the Scout built a mini pioneering version of an up & over bridge. This was both a fun project and also good practice for building a full scale one at Summer Camp 2012
Scouts Grand Prix (March, 2012)
On Wednesday 28th March 2012 we held our "Scouts Grand Prix". Our Scouts used a Pinewood Derby Kit to make their own cars. They put a lot of effort and time into building and racing them as these photos show. Prizes were won and every got a Creme egg.
Scout Tower Builders (March, 2012)
The Scouts were challenged to build the tallest tower out of canes and rubber bands. The test was could the stand up on their own. All did....Well sort of !!!!!!!
