Exodus Explorer Scouts Evening (March, 2014)
On Wednesday 5th March 2014 the Scout troop night was run by visitors from Royston’s Exodus Explorer Scout unit. The Explorers came equipped with tin cans and tee lights and showed the Scouts how to make mini tin can cookers. Once the cans were cleaned and had slots cut in the sides the Scouts made up some pancake mix which they poured onto the upturned cans. After a few minutes the pancakes were ready and the Scouts had the opportunity to taste their work. Much fun was had and we send a big “Thank You” to Exodus Explorer for a great evening. We hope that this will lead to a better link between our Scouts and Exodus Explorer unit so as to help with the transfer between the two groups when the Scouts have to leave us and continue their Scouting life.
Rocket Building (February, 2014)
On Wednesday the 26th February 2014 the Scouts had a visit from two members of EARS (East Anglia Rocket Society). After a short video show the Scouts had a brief talk on what the society was all about and the different types and size of rockets they launch. Once the talk was over all the Scouts, and some leaders, got the chance to build their own rockets. The plan was to then launch them on the following Sunday unfortunately the weather was against us and we’ll have to wait till next month. Hope you like the photos.
Photographers Badge (February, 2014)
In preparation for the Photographer’s Badge the Scouts were asked to do video story boards. The Scouts were divided up into their patrols and spent most of the evening discussing and drawing their ideas. At the end of the evening the Scouts had to present their ideas to the rest of the troop and two were chosen to be made later in the term.
So as to help get some practice with the cameras the Scouts would be using for their Photographer’s Badge they practiced filming some of the other Scouts building pioneering suspension bridges. The Scouts took it in turns to build and film. When the bridges were finished they were tested to see how many beans bags they would hold at their middle. All of this was still being filmed. A good night of practice for both those filming and the builders.
Tallest paper tower challenge (January, 2014)
After being challenged to build the longest and strongest paper bridges a few weeks ago our Scouts had a go at making the Tallest tower out of paper. There were a few various ideas and a few surprises. Here are the photos of what they came up with.
Scouts build paper bridges (December, 2013)
During Wednesday the 4th December 2013 troop night the Scouts were challenged to build paper bridges. They had two challenges (1) was to build the longest bridge and (2) to build the strongest bridge that would hold the most bean bags at it centre point. All the patrols had different ideas and some interesting bridges were built.
Institute of Astronomy Trip (November, 2013)
On Thursday 28th November 2013 the Scouts, as part of their Astronomers badge, went to Cambridge's Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge. After being dived in to two groups the Scouts took it in turns to be in the main lecture hall with Greg and learn about the universe whilst the others went out side with Stacie to have a look at one of the telescopes. The night sky did not cooperate so the Scouts were unable to use the telescope but learnt a lot about it. Whist in the lecture hall the Scouts got to hold pieces of three different meteorites and learnt more about the plants and stars we see when we look at the night sky. After both groups had swapped over, and had a look though a telescope to find a Clanger, the evening ended with a quiz. Much fun was had and new things learnt. Many thanks to Stacie and Greg for a great evening.

Group Summer Camp in Haslingfield (July, 2013)
Between Thursday 25th July and Sunday 28th 2013 the Scouts and Older Cubs had their summer camp. We were very lucky to have a field in Haslingfield kindly loan to us for the weekend by a family member of Amanda (Kaa) for which we are truly grateful. The Scouts arrived on Thursday with all the kit and put up the Tents. Friday was spent doing various Scout badge work and having fun. The Cubs arrived at 5pm on Friday and once settled joined the Scouts on a hike. The rest of the weekend was spent learning new camp skill and playing games. Thanks to all who made it a very happy and fun camp. Hope you like the photos.
