Grafham Water Activity Centre Camp (September, 2014)
Grafham Water Centre Camp Over the weekend of the 6th – 7th September 2014 the Scouts went to Grafham Water Centre for an action packed activity camp. Saturday morning started with the Climbing wall and was followed by Archery. After lunch it was time for some raft building and sailing (sinking!!). Dinner was followed by some Orienteering around the centre. The evening finished with a nice hot drink. After Sunday breakfast the Scouts did some Crate Stacking and finished by doing the “Grafham Challenge”. A great time was had by all, Scouts and leaders, and a very big “thank you” to all the instructors who worked so had to insure we had a good time. See you next year we hope!!!! Hope you like the photos.
Scout Camp Pampisford (July, 2014)
Over the weekend of the 24th – 27th July 2014 the Scouts had their annul summer camp. This year we were very lucky to be allowed to use a field in Pampisford. The Scouts arrived on Thursday and were joined by some of the older Cubs on Friday. The campers had to cook their own breakfast each morning. They also had to cook their own lunch on Friday and Saturday over open fires. Friday evening was spent out on a hike. We also got a visit from our new DC Geoff Kavanagh on Friday and our new night’s away adviser, Stuart, on Saturday. It was nice to have them at camp and they both seemed happy with the way the camp was set up and the way everyone was enjoying themselves. The Scouts also got to sleep out in bivouacs, that they made themselves, on Saturday night. The days were spent learning new Scout skills and having fun. Well done to all the leaders on a great camp. Hope you like the photos.
Guillaume Chief Scouts Gold Award (July, 2014)
On the last night of summer term 2014, Wednesday 16th July, I was very proud Scout Leader to be able to present Guillaume Prisk with his Chief Scouts Gold Award. The Chief Scouts Gold Award is the highest award in the Scout Section and requires the completion of 8 different staged Challenge Badges. Guillaume has worked hard during his time at Scouts and has earned the right to wear his award with honour. Congratulation.
Skalický Trdelník cooking on an open fire (June, 2014)
Skalický Trdelník During out troop night of 25th June 2014 our Scouts got to cook Skalický Trdelník. This is a traditional Hungarian sweet pastry, originally coming from Székely Land, Transylvania. The Scouts had to first put the dough on to a stick and then hold it over the embers of the fire. Some got a bit burnt and black but all the Scouts enjoyed the experience, some even tasted what they cooked!! It was a good night and all the Scouts loved being around the fire, even if they did got a bit smokey, Sorry!! Hope you enjoy the photos.
Cooking Pizza on Camp Ovens (June, 2014)
After making the fantastic camp ovens the previous week, the scouts fired them up and cooked pizza. When they weren't collecting fire wood or checking the pizzas, they took their best shots at the air rifle targets!
Camp oven building (June, 2014)
On Wednesday 4th June 2014 our Scouts had a try at building Camp Ovens. We were lucky that we were allowed to visit James Prisk’s workshop site where his landlord had given us permission to not only build our ovens there but to leave them to set over the week ready for us to cook in them next Wednesday. The ovens cases themselves were built at James workshop and the Scouts were challenged to cover them with soil and chalk to insulate them and turn them into real mud ovens. Judging by the end results I think the Scouts had a good time and did a great job (we’ll find that out next week). Hope you like the photos.
Scouts Survival Camp (April, 2014)
On the weekend of the 26th & 27th April 2014 some of our older Scouts had a Survival Camp. They had to build their own over night accommodation and cook all their own food on open fires. There were all some "Top Gear" inspired Challenges to perform. Much fun was had by all.
Outdoor Catapults (April, 2014)
On Wednesday 23rd April 2014 the Scouts built Outdoor Catapults. Once they were finished the Scouts took it in turns to see who could catapult a bean bag the furthest. After a few goes the Scouts then turned on each other for a small friendly war. Much fun was had building and firing the catapults.
Scouts Rocket Launch (April, 2014)
On Sunday 6th April 2014 the Scouts finally got to launch their rockets. The rockets were built last term during one of our troop evenings and were suppose to be launched at the beginning of March but the weather beat us. But not this month and I hope you can see from the photos that the wait was worth while. There is also a video you can see here: http://vimeo.com/91182851. Thank you East Anglia Rocket Society (EARS) for all your help. http://www.ears.org.uk/
Photographers Badge Light Painting (March, 2014)
As a part of their Photographers Badge the Scouts did some “Light Painting”. This evolved the Scouts use of a camera with a long shutter timer and some glows stick. Some Scouts did profiles of other Scouts whilst the rest did swing glow stick on ropes to create circles. Some very interesting effects were created.
