Scouts cook outdoors in Camp Ovens (March, 2015)
On the last night of spring term the Scouts once more ventured over to James’s workshop for some fun. The Scouts were tasked with preparing and cooking French style open pizzas and cooking them in camp ovens. The ovens were built last year by the Scouts and with new chimneys worked even better than last time. The pizzas all cooked well, some TOO well, and the Scouts all had a good time to finish off the term. Hope you like the photos.
Cooking Cake in Oranges (March, 2015)
At last Wednesday’s (18th March 2105) troop night the Scouts headed over to James’s workshop for some cooking on open fire. The evening started with the Scouts having to cut off the top of an orange and scoop out the insides. Next they mixed up some cake mixture and poured it inside. With their tops replaced the oranges were wrapped in tin foil and placed in the embers of the fire. After about 20 to 30 minutes they were cooked ?? I think the best way to describe the results would be interesting………. Hope you like the photos
Chef’s Badge Cooking Evening (February, 2015)
As stated in the term photos this term the Scouts have been working on their Chef’s Badge. With all the troop night paperwork done it was time to head off to James workshop (Thank you James) for some practical. The menu was Spaghetti Bolognese as the main course and Pain Perdu for pudding. The night turned out to be a great success with all the food being eaten and the Scouts asking if they could do this again. The main aim of doing this badge was to not only give the Scouts a chance at cooking their own food but to get them ready for doing it for real at camp. This is an evening that will make a return…Watch the programme page for when!
Spring Term (February, 2015)
This has been a very busy term for our Scouts. The main badge this term was the Chef Activity Badge which meant that the Scouts had to not only plan a meal but also know all about the health and safety aspects of food preparation, storage and transportation. It was not all work there was a lot of fun to. The term started with a games night which included an obstacle course, dodge ball, jump the rope and hockey. Along with all this during the term the Scouts built paper towers and pioneering catapults. As a bit of a team building exercise the Scouts were challenge to all stand on one side of a ground sheet and turn it over without anyone getting off. Much fun and laughter followed. Here are the photos, hope you like them.

Christmas Party (December, 2014)
On the last meeting of the year, Wednesday 17th December 2014, both the Cubs and the Scouts section came together for their annul Christmas party. The theme this year was a Fancy dress disco. The evening started with a game known to both sections as River bank. During the evening the Scouts and Cubs also played many musical based games including musical statues, pass the parcel and musical chairs. There was some food and drink supplied half way to keep everyone going. The evening finished with the one game all wanted to play burst the balloon. A good night was had by all. A big Thank You to all the leaders for a great evening and a great 2014. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Scouts attempt a World Record (December, 2014)
At their troop night on Wednesday 3rd December 2014 the Scouts attempted to set a new Guinness World Record. Using parts from the official kit they made paper planes and tried to hit the target from a set distance. It is safe to say that the current holders of the record need not have worried. There are other kits in the range and we’ll try and have more luck with one of them in the future.
Scouts Emergency Aid Training Evenings (November, 2014)
Over the two troop evenings of November 19th & 26th 2014 the Scouts were taught about first aid. We were very lucky to have long time friends of the troop, and district First Aid leader trainers, Andy and Sandra come along and show us how first aid should be done. The Scouts were given a questionnaire to take home and complete. Once handed back Andy took them home and will mark them. The Scout will find out in a few weeks which level Emergency Aid they got (3, 4 or 5).We all would like to say a big Thank You to both Andy and Sandra for all their hard work and for taking the time to come and help us with such an important and life saving badge. I hope you like the photos.
Scout Air Camp (October, 2014)
Over the weekend of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th October 2014 ten of our Scouts went on a Scout Air Camp. The camp was held at the Cambridge Gliding centre in Gransden. The weekend included learning about all things aeronautical, model air plane building and a flight in one of the clubs planes. At the end of the weekend all the Scouts were presented with 3 Scout activities badges, Aeronautics, Basic Aviation Skills & Mechanic, and were allowed to take their models home. Looks like they all had fun and I hope you like the pictures as they were taken by the Scouts themselves.
Remote firework lighting (October, 2014)
On Wednesday 22nd October 2014 the Scouts had a go at lighting fireworks remotely. The plan was to build a pioneering project that would allow the Scouts to light the firework from a safe distance. Under the instructions of Ben Harris and with help from the other leaders the Scouts made their devices in the hall first before moving outside for the launch. Each patrol got two attempts to let fly their fireworks and we are glade to say all succeeded. Hope you like the photos.
