Scouts Summer Camp (July, 2017)
In late July 1 st Harston Scouts held their annual Summer Camp at Eaton Vale, Norwich. Kayaking was the main activity with most members, all of whom were novices, gaining their initial British Canoeing 1 Star Award. Several leaders gained excellent hands on practise and training in group management under the watchful eyes of the highly qualified instructors at Eaton Vale. All this was in preparation for the Group getting its own fleet of canoes back on the water in Spring 2018 and the leaders working towards their Adventurous Activity Permits.There was also plenty of opportunity for some fine camp cooking, orienteering, axe throwing and other traditional Scouting activities.
Noah Wins The District Badge Competition (July, 2017)
With entries received from all corners of the District, Royston Lochearnhead 2017’s badge competition was hotly contested. The winning badge was designed by Noah Broughton of 1 st Harston who literally jumped with delight when he was informed. Well done Noah.

Green Beret Challenge (November, 2016)
Harston Scouts enjoying a break from the full on activities at Green Beret Challenge 2016. Newcomers to this long running annual event, where points are gained by competing at over 150 different activities between 8.30am and 11pm, we were pleased to have come top in our District. Most importantly, the Scouts worked as teams and supported one another throughout.

Airsoft Event (June, 2016)
On the 4th June 2016, a group of Scouts, Explorers and leaders attended a day of airsoft at the Gunman Airsoft site near Tuddenham. Airsoft is like paintballing, but uses small plastic pellets instead of paintballs. There were 18 players in total and it was good fun. We are looking to run the event again next year!
Group Camp Pampisford (April, 2016)
Over the weekend of the 22nd - 24th April 2016 the Scouts and Cubs took part in an camp near Pampisford. The five patrols cooked chili con carne for dinner then pancakes and bacon for breakfast. Activities included fire lighting without matches or lighters, air rifle shooting, making ice cream, water games and lots of other fun activities. On the Saturday night, we had a big camp fire followed by hot chocolate. The camp ended on Sunday with the scouts renewing their promises.
County Scout Cooking Competition (February, 2016)
A team of 4 Scouts from 1st Harston represented the Royston District at the Hertfordshire County Scout Cooking Competition. Having prepared, cooked and served a three course South American themed meal to a high standard, the team were rewarded with third place in the competition. Out of a possible maximum of 205 points, the Harston Scouts scored 177 with the winners and second place teams on 180 and 179 respectively. There were a total of twelve teams competing and this was the first time that the Royston District had competed in this long running annual County event.
Cambridge University Engineering Department (January, 2016)
The Scouts attended the bridge building event at the Cambridge University Engineering Department on the 27th January 2016. It was good to see so many parents there, thank you most sincerely for all your contributions and support. I'm sure everyone would agree that it was a successful evening and join me in thanking Maria Kettle for arranging to host us. Anyway, as they say, never under estimate the power of a tin of beans.
